"Now we are officially a family of 3 and couldn’t have done it without RG Adoption Consulting, Becca and the amazing community of hopeful families that work with RGAC."
Nicole & Thad, IllinoisNicole & Thad’s Story
We were led to adoption after struggling with infertility. In our hearts we knew we wanted to be parents, point-blank. What we now realize is that adoption is the best decision we could have ever made.
We started working with RG Adoption Consulting in February of 2019, and we came in knowing nothing about the process. We were looking for someone to take our hands and lead us through this journey, and RGAC did just that. By October of that year, we were home study approved and things seemed to be moving quickly as we were matched just a few months later!
However, things don’t always go as we plan. Our first adoption match failed. It was a devastating thing to go through. We had made the drive down to Florida and were just waiting for baby’s birth per the request of the expectant mother. That seemed to make it even harder when we found out that she had decided to parent.
At that point, we took a step back and gave ourselves the time to heal and be there for another. Moving through the grief, we made a game plan and came back as an “active” family, ready to make our family-building dreams come true. We knew our child was out there somewhere, we just had to find them.
Almost a year after our first match, we got a call that our daughter had been born. Her birth mother’s wishes were for the adoption agency to choose her child’s parents, and they chose us! It felt surreal.
I immediately called our consultant, Becca, because on paper the situation didn’t fit the adoption criteria we had originally set. Becca brought on the questions…
“Could you love this child?”
“Could your family love this child?”
“Are you prepared to do what you have to do?”
The answers to all of those questions were “Absolutely, yes!”
I remember Becca hearing our answers and telling us to go meet our baby! It felt like it was meant to be all along.
We were still in shock when we made it to Florida. Our daughter’s birth mother had already signed all the necessary paperwork, so it was official. We both went into the hospital and held her for the first time.
The moments we spent with her in the NICU, cuddling and feeding her, will always be irreplaceable. We were there every waking minute and were able to meet our daughter’s birth mother during that time too. She is an amazing person and we hope to keep in contact with her for a lifetime. We continue to send pictures and leave space for her.
We will always hold the moment we had in the parking lot of the hospital with our daughter’s birth mother near and dear to hearts. She fully knows that we will take the best care of our daughter.
Through the ups and downs of this journey, we tried to remain gracious. We never lost sight of our dreams, or let negativity get in our way. Now we are officially a family of 3 and couldn’t have done it without RG Adoption Consulting, Becca and the amazing community of hopeful families that work with RGAC.
