Carlos & Laura’s Story

"With RGAC, things took a turn for the better. Suddenly, we felt seen. Our journey wasn't just another file on a desk. It was our journey, and they walked every step with us through the tough parts." - Laura & Carlos, Illinois

Deciding to adopt wasn’t an easy call for us. Laura had this glimmer in her eyes whenever she talked about it, but for me, Carlos, it took some time to wrap my head around it. We kept it close, not sure if it would ever become a reality. Emotionally, it was like riding a roller coaster. Our first shot with an adoption agency drained us both emotionally and financially. No support, just broken promises. It was tough. Laura had these awful stomachaches, and I was constantly stressed. We felt like we were losing hope with every passing day.

Then along came RG Adoption Consulting and everything changed. Our home study contact mentioned them, and our first chat with Kate and Becca felt like talking to old friends. They were real and upfront. Signing on with them felt like a breath of fresh air after being suffocated for so long. Becca, our consultant, was like our personal rock. Always there, always ready to listen or share a laugh. She was our anchor in the storm.

With RGAC, things took a turn for the better. Suddenly, we felt seen. Our journey wasn’t just another file on a desk. It was our journey, and they walked every step with us through the tough parts. Those nights of despair were still there, but Becca’s words and the community we found online lifted us. We held onto hope, onto each other, believing that maybe, just maybe, things would fall into place.

And they did! Our baby girl’s arrival was a whirlwind of emotions. Walking into that dimly lit NICU, and seeing her swaddled in the bassinet—it was like time stopped. I can’t put into words the love that surged within us. I cried, Laura cried, and when I called my mom, I was so overwhelmed, that I could barely speak through my tears. It was pure joy.

The speed of it all caught us off guard. Seven months with RGAC compared to the agonizing 27 with an adoption agency—it was like the blink of an eye. Holding our daughter for the first time felt like this had been God’s plan all along. But we wanted more. A deeper connection with our child’s birth mom. Sending pictures through the agency was a start, but we hoped for more, for a future where our daughter could know her roots.

Looking back, we’d tell ourselves to trust the process. To trust Becca, to trust RG Adoption Consulting. Because ultimately, it was about believing that things would fall into place as they were meant to. Our adoption journey, with its twists and turns, led us to a place where love overflowed and made us a family. And for that, we’re forever grateful.
